Pregnancy: Body Care Products I am Loving
At 33 weeks pregnant, my belly is growing by the day! From the start of my pregnancy, I’ve made a conscious effort to keep my stomach, hips, back, chest and bum very moisturized to (possibly) prevent stretch marks and dry skin. While we’ve all heard stretch marks can be genetic, and if you’re gonna get them, there’s little you can do to prevent them. Nonetheless, I am all about prevention and doing anything I can to keep my skin looking good (no matter where it is on my body!). So far, I don’t have any stretch marks, but if I do end up getting some it won’t be a big deal. I am mostly keeping my skin super moisturized because as it gets colder and dryer here in Baltimore, I want my skin feeling soft!
Below are some products I’ve been loved on my skin during pregnancy. Of course, everyones skin and preferences are different, but I hope this wide variety of products is helpful! Shop the post below! Note: I’m not using all of these products at once, they are just some of the items I’ve tried over the last 33 weeks.
Summer Fridays Babymoon Balm ($28): I was so excited when this product launched, and really loved it! I blew through my tube super quickly, and probably should’ve bought two! This balm has a very mild scent that didn’t bother me at all (I am sensitive to fragrance/smells, especially while pregnant). This product is probably my favorite on the list because it is super hydrating and rich, without staying greasy. This seems to only be a limited edition item at the moment!
Necessaire Body Lotion ($25): I’ve religiously used this body lotion since December 2019. It will forever remain in my body care routine, so it should come as no surprise that it was included on this list. Fragrance-free, this product is perfect if you find yourself nauseated by fragrance of any kind while pregnant. I often apply this at night and put the Body Oil on top (see below).
LATHER Almond ,Milk & Honey Body Butter ($28): I adore this body butter. It smells like heaven (you have to like that almond scent), and is SO RICH and thick. It is the perfect thick body butter to slather all over my dry winter skin, but I especially focus on the belly area. It also comes in a a Manuka Honey scent, if almond isn’t your thing!
Necessaire The Body Oil ($35): This body oil is a newer product in the Necessaire family, and I’ve already nearly finished my first bottle. It is the best body oil consistency, in my opinion, because it doesn’t leave your skin feeling greasy for hours after use (which I hate). My belly feels perfectly moisturized, and I like that there is no fragrance!
Beautycounter Melting Body Balm ($42): This product is definitely similar to the Summer Fridays balm, but it isn’t a limited item. Of course, since it is Beautycounter, it is made from the best ingredients and is non-toxic. I will certainly keep this in my rotation, even after baby comes!
Hatch Body Oil ($58): I received this gift from Hatch a few months ago and really enjoyed it during the warmer months. It is a nice, lightly scented, thin body oil that absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy. I really like how it smells, and will use the other 1/2 of the bottle I have left after pregnancy.
Baby/Regular Aquaphor ($5-14): If you are a TikTok user, odds are you’ve heard of a skincare term called “slugging”, which basically is a way of locking in moisture on the skin using Vaseline or Aquaphor. I figured I could give this a try on my growing belly, and I definitely think it has been helping. I have been using baby Aquaphor because it is what we have on hand (hello nesting!), but regular Aquaphor would work great. Applying a thin layer of a petroleum-based product ilke Aquaphor or Vaseline helps lock in the moisture and products on your skin. Google “skin slugging” for more info!
My 33-week routine: My current NIGHTLY routine at 33-weeks pregnant is as follows (fewer steps during the day to avoid my clothes getting all greasy). Applying a thin layer of the Necessaire Body Serum, followed by body lotion, then body oil, and lastly Aquaphor. It is probably excessive, but I think layering these products has been helping keep my skin moisturized.
