Our Home Tour: The Living Room

Our Home Tour: The Living Room

Hi there! I am so excited to start this new section of my blog, where I give you detailed tours of the rooms in our home! I am PRETTY OBSESSED with interior design and decorating, and owning our home has allowed me to fully utilize this passion. It has been so fun decorating this house and finding perfect pieces for every room. As a kid growing up (I mean, I remember saying this is elementary school), I always wanted to be an interior decorator. I love the process of finding pieces that bring personality to each room. Buying a house to decorate on my own was a dream of mine, and I’ve loved the process (which is ongoing) over the past year.

It feels fitting to start with our living room AKA, the room I spend the majority of my time in. Our living room doubles as my office as well, so having it feel cozy and well put together was super important to us. Something that’s also been fun to do is hunt for pieces that will fit the space. We have a mix of high and low end products in each room in our home. Some of our furniture is from Craigslist, some is custom. I appreciate the mix. When we first moved into the house, I was eager to furnish every room in the space as soon as possible. I guess I hadn’t considered finances at that point, because furniture is EXPENSIVE! It has been such a blast searching for the perfect pieces for our home, and watching everything come together.

Blue and white/tan/cream is my favorite color combination for living rooms. Hydrangea blue is my favorite color, and I love that it was represented in our beautiful chairs. I’ve tried to replicate that color throughout the room via our art, and various accessories. I also love that we chose darker wood furniture to ground the lightness of the upholstered furniture. I think it provides a nice balance.

For each room I show in this series, I’ll do my best to link as many products as I can. However, if I haven’t linked something that you want the info for, feel free to leave a comment below! Enjoy!

Furniture

Couch: IKEA in “Lofallet Beige” // Doesn’t every home have an IKEA couch at some point?  This Ektorp model is a true classic. We will be getting my parents family room couch once they move, but this has been great for now. Eventually it will be moved to the basement.

Coffee Table: Pottery Barn Large Size in “Rustic Brown” // I adore our coffee table. This replaced a smaller one (that we actually turned into my desk…see below), so when it first arrived it looked HUGE. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a large coffee table, but that’s what I love about it. It is substantial and makes the whole room come together. Nothing worse than a tiny coffee table in a big open room. Yikes!

TV Console Dresser: Craigslist // Would you ever guess that dresser is from Craigslist? I wouldn’t. It was actually painted a pretty blue color (that would’ve been too similar to our chairs), but I wanted something dark, so we repainted the whole thing ourselves. Similar HERE and HERE

Blue Chairs: Custom CR Laine, "Studio" Chair in "Day Tripper Sky" // I LOVE our blue chairs. They are so comfortable and special. Certainly not an inexpensive purchase, but definitely worth it. I’ve linked similar HERE and HERE. Send me a message on Instagram for our CR Laine reps contact information.

Desk: Custom // A friend used to do woodwork, and we bought the desk (which was once a coffee table, I swapped the legs) and hairpin side table from him. Etsy is a great resource for handcrafted goods like these. Similar HERE and HERE

Desk Chair: Target, in “Cream Fabric” // Nothing special, but very comfortable, and inexpensive.

Area Rug: Jim Boyds Remnant Cutting, Custom Size. Very similar HERE.

Side Table: Custom // Similar HERE

Window Bench: Wayfair // Ok so normally this bench has a Turkish towel covering it, because it is Buzz’s bench (he was using the coffee table as a looking point before). I’d rather it not have the towel, but since it isn’t slipcovered the towel will have to do. It is really beautiful and reasonable. Would look great at the end of a bed.

Accessories:

Coffee Table Basket: Pottery Barn, Large // I am a lover of functional storage. This coffee table is ginormous, so called for some baskets and coffee table books underneath. I love this basket so much.

Entryway Pendant Light: Ballard Designs, Large Size in “Hammered Bronze” // I love these pendants so much. We have one in our entryway, one in our staircase and another, larger size in the dining room. Since we don’t have recessed overhead lighting, these bright lights were just what the room needed. I recommend your electrician put them on a dimmer!

Blanket BasketPottery Barn // More functional, pretty storage. You’ll notice this theme throughout the home. This basket is great.

Dog Toy Basket: West Elm (sold out) // Similar HERE and HERE

Floating Shelf: Pottery Barn, in Mahogany (3ft size)  // I had a hard time deciding what to put above my desk. I debated a mirror, but felt it would’ve been awkward to stare at myself, and wanted another way to display art. this floating shelf was the perfect option. I love that we’ve used dark wood throughout our living room.

Coffee Table Hurricanes: Crate & Barrel // These were on our wedding registry, and I just love them!

Floor LampTarget // Target is just the best for lamps! This was the perfect addition to the dark corner by the TV.

Desk LampTarget // I think nearly all of our lamps are from Target! I am a sucker for mercury glass so these are right up my alley.

Blue Antelope PillowsEtsy // I hemmed and hawed over which color antelope pillows to get for our couch, and am obsessed with these. They match our blue chairs perfectly. I love a bit of animal print.

Ivory PillowsPottery Barn // Super comfy and the perfect size for lounging!

Cotton Canvas Pillow Covers: West Elm // I love these pillows I purchased for our blue chairs. I have the 18” x 18” size.

Faux Fur Throw: Pottery Barn, in "Caramel" // These furry Pottery Barn blankets are the best. We have 3 different ones!

Dog Bed: Orvis // Since I am a lover of monograms and personalization, I had to get Buzz his own bed with his name on it! Spoiled rotten? Definitely not. ;)

Art:

Blue Abstract Landscape: Wendy Doak // Wendy is a local artist who so kindly gifted this painting to me. I am still debating whether or not to frame it, but for now I love it as is!

Buzz Portrait: Perkie Prints // This portrait of Buzzy is one of my favorite things! This company is awesome, and the portraits turn out beautifully.

Wedding Photos: Framebridge // I love using Framebridge to frame our special pictures. All of the wedding photos in our house are Framebridge!

Cow Print: David Peikon // This print was a gift from a friend for our wedding, but the artist, Dave, is a longtime family friend. His realistic art is absolutely incredible and so beautiful.

Abstract on Linen: Corinne Bizzle // Thank you, Corinne for this beautiful piece!

Miniature Framed Paintings: Purchased in Vermont, various artists

Wall Color // Behr Paint in “Gentle Rain”
