Our New Air Purifier Review

Our New Air Purifier Review

This post is part of a sponsored collaboration with Sharp. Check out my other post in this series here.

We all know about the importance of washing our hands, and disinfecting the surfaces in our home. This cleanliness can be vital to the longevity of our health. But have you considered cleaning the air in your home? Especially during times like these, when the word “pandemic” is part of our daily lexicon, it is important to keep the air in your home as clean as your surfaces!

If you’ve been following me on Instagram for awhile, you’ve probably heard about my mold sensitivities due to previous mold exposure, and my MTFHR gene mutation playing a role in the buildup of mold in my system. For those who are not aware, I have previously lived in two moldy environments. One in college (a dorm that was so mold-infested, it was torn down several days after we moved out), and a basement bedroom in a townhouse that sustained major water damage, and slow cleanup/incomplete removal of the items that got wet.

It was not until a few years ago when I noticed how stuffy I would be upon waking (in our old home downtown), that I decided to invest in an air purifier. Since then, I have made it my mission to find the right purifier in my home that actually works. Trust me when I say, I’ve gone through several, less expensive, but “promising” options on the market. Many seemed to work initially, but their effectiveness wore off quickly after sustained use. I was excited when Sharp reached out to me to see if I wanted to try their HEPA Air Purifier With Plasmacluster® Ion Technology, especially when I saw it can aid in the removal of bacteria, mold and viruses in the air in a home.

What is great about the Sharp HEPA Air Purifiers is that they come in a variety of room-size options, and are at a relatively affordable price point, for such a quality machine. Similarly, the Sharp True HEPA Air Purifier with Plasmacluster® Ion Technology contains Long-Life True HEPA filters that last up to 2 years. This is great from a cost perspective, since some air filters can cost between $50-$100 a year for replacements. HEPA (which stands for high-efficiency particulate air) is the industry standard for air purification, and these filters are known for being optimal at reducing and trapping particles from the air. The Sharp purifiers use True HEPA filtration, which is ideal for removing common household allergens such as dust, mold, bacteria, dander and viruses from your air.

If you are a real air purifier snob like me, you may wonder about ozone production. Upon reaching out to the team at Sharp, I learned that Sharp’s Plasmacluster Ion Technology produces 5X less ozone (at less than 0.01 ppm) than the lowest industry and federal standards set by the FDA, OSHA and NIOSH. It’s been tested in 17 tests by laboratories in the USA, as well as in the U.K., Germany, Japan, South Korea, China and Vietnam. There is almost no ozone created at all.

While I’ve only been using the Sharp True HEPA Air Purifier with Plasmacluster® Ion Technology for a couple of weeks, I am loving the results I am feeling so far. The purifier will probably reside in our basement, because like most basements, the air can get a little musty. This is currently the only floor in our house that doesn’t have a purifier…and it definitely needs it the most. Similarly, Yale has been working in the basement during the COVID-19 quarantine, and the Sharp True HEPA Air Purifier with Plasmacluster® Ion Technology offers LibraryQuiet™ operation (as quiet as 15 decibels), to keep him distraction-free while working in the space.

All in all, I am so happy to have this new air purifier to add to our home. It has been a welcomed addition, and we look forward to its continued use as the seasons continue.
