My Favorite Clean Sunless Tanning Products

My Favorite Clean Sunless Tanning Products

It is no secret that I love a good fake tan (see my last post where I shared my spray tan tips!). In the winter, there is nothing worse than having pale skin for me. I love a healthy glow, and since I don’t like to tan my body too much, self tanners have always been part of my routine.

I have tried MANY self tan products before switching to clean beauty. Thankfully, the market has expanded and many self-tanners now have cleaner ingredients. I will say, I’ve yet to find a self tanner that doesn’t have that “fake tan” smell (caused by DHA, a color additive). However, one of them on this list is scented, which is nice and another contains SPF, so when the product dries down, it smells more like sunscreen, than DHA.

Since we’re in the thick of winter, I wanted to share the fake tan products I use regularly. I hope you enjoy this post and find it helpful! Share you favorite “clean” self tan products in the comments!

Beauty By Earth Self Tanner: I have been using this self tanning lotion for YEARS (like 4, no joke). It is the perfect lotion-consistency, especially if you’re used to products like Jergens Sunless Tan. It applies white and develops into a nice natural tan in a few hours. Buildable, but I find I only need one application. Non-greasy too which is great.

Supergoop! Healthy Glow Sunless Tan SPF 40: This is the newest sunless tanning product I’ve tried and I REALLY like it. I love that it contains SPF! Great for days when you won’t be in the sun long, and want SPF coverage, but also want to develop a little tan. I will say, it does not smell great initially, but that quickly fades and switches to a nice sunscreen smell (which I like). The product comes in a spray bottle which can be a little hard to use if your hands are slick (since the bottle can be slippery). Provides a beautiful, natural light tan that is buildable and does not transfer onto white towels, etc (from my experience).

Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops: I love these self tanning drops, and think the concept is really cool! I add a few drops to my usual body lotion, and find it works like a charm. I use the light shade which feels plenty tan for me, and is buildable (although I may purchase the medium when I run out). I apply this product on my face and have not had an issue with it breaking me out. It also smells like cucumber initially, which subsides and does leave a DHA smell…but it isn’t bad. My favorite for face, and easy application.
